When gnome3 first came out I was unsuccessful at getting it to work with
x2go. However, I just tried installing gnome-flashback and gave it another shot, now it mostly works except I can find no way of logging out except to kill the gnome-flashback process. Am I missing something that should be installed or is it broken this way?

in old days, it was

gnome-session-save --logout

from a terminal. This you could add as a panel shortcut button if all other approaches fail.
