There is XALAN_NO_STD_ALLOCATORS in the compiler configuration files. This seemed to make my problems go away. Having said that, I am using a seriously tweaked distribution of STLport 4.0. It's not out of the box. One of the Xalan developers had indicated to me that there isn't a problem with the standard STLport 4.0 distro. Also, I have been using Xalan 1.2 on solaris with STLport 4.5, albeit with Xerces 1.5.1 and in this case also STD allocators have been turned off.
