There is no "minimal" binary distribution.

You are free to redistribute Apache software in accordance with the license
terms that are included in the distributions.  Please don't ask us to
interpret the licensing agreements for you.

If you repackage the processor, make sure you use a unique file name, so
there is no question of confusion with the official distribution.

Is xalan-c downloadable somewhere with just the necessary
binaries .. ie contents of \xml-xalan\c\Build\Win32\VC6\Release
in case of win32 (is everything there necessary?).

If not, is it ok to make such a package for our students who
want to try it at home?
