Hi Thanks David I managed to fix the problem. In AIX, the default no:of memory segments per process is 1. 1 segment can have 256MB memory. This implies that this process can used only 256MB memory even if the ulimit -m is set to unlimited.
we have an option changing this no:of segments value by using export LDR_CNTRL=MAXDATA=0x80000000 Here 8 means 8x256MB = 2GB Set this value and ran the Xalan. It worked like charm.
