HP-UX 11 Xalan-C++ dld error

When I try to run testXSLT, I get an error that says:

/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't open shared library:
/home/xalan/apache/xml-xerces/c/lib/libxerces-c1_4.sl
/usr/lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory

I set my SHLIB_PATH environment variable to the correct path that is not the one
 above.  Could there be some reason why dld is not looking at SHLIB_PATH?
