Hi,
We need help in pdf generation in Morgan
Stanely GSD project. We have a
requirement
of generating reports in TXT, CSV, HTML
and PDF formats. The inputs for the reports is a XML
file and the conversion to the
respective output formats are done using XSLT.
For pdf conversion we use the FOP
API's
The way the
processing goes is as follows :
The user sends the request for
generating report of a particular format. The control for
generating
the reports passes from a Javabean to a
report specific class which generates the respective
report and writes it in a
file on the server. When the control comes back to the bean, the bean
reads the file that is written by
the business class and sends it back in the response object.
In case of other formats this happens
properly. But in case of pdf, we see that the file length
is 0(when the bean reads it),
because of which an empty file is sent back to the
client.
However after sometime(5 mts approx) the
file gets created fully on the server. We feel that this
problem MAY be due to
FOP spawning a separate thread while generating the
pdf report.
However we are not sure about this. The
API documentation doesn't give any info about this.
If any of you have worked on pdf generation with fop API's, we would
like to know how exactly
the pdf generation works. Any
solution for this problem will be
appreciated.
