Who asked a question about Xalan/Xerces on J2EE? I wouldn't answer a
question about it because I don't work on the Java processor and don't know
much about J2EE. Is someone really asking a question about Xalan-C++ and
J2EE?
Please go ahead a try to build using gcc -- we don't support it because we
don't have a machine that we own to install gcc. The machine we're using
is borrowed and I don't want to ask the owners to install anything. We
also have limited resources and can't support every combination of OS and
compiler out there. This is especially difficult with GCC, since there are
so many versions and they all behave differently. The stuff in the
Makefile to build using gcc was contributed well over a year ago and has
not been maintained. If you want to maintain it, we'll be happy to take
back any changes that are required.

Let me get this straight. You support only the $un compiler, but will
not even answer a question regarding the use of Xalan/Xerces on J2EE.
David Bertoni: I have a Solaris 8 Sparc with gcc. Would it help if I
tried to build Xalan/Xerces on this?
