Hi Chris,

way, way, way too basic. Not only is that not a Xalan
Development question or a Xalan usage question, it's
not even an XSL question. Refer to
http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml and in particular
http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml#sec-entity-decl
to learn how to declare entities. I guess in your
case it might be something like

<!ENTITY nbsp "&#160;">

inside the DTD.

Xalan seems to undersatnd &lt; and &gt; ,but not &nbsp, for example. 
How can I define other entities?
