James, nobody has every accused me of being sane, but...
Large memory footprint for the stylesheet was one of the issues with
XalanJ1. I suggest you try XalanJ 2.2.d10 to see if it helps. I think we
do OK with DocBook.xsl, which is a pretty big stylesheet.
