We know we need a general answer to the question of DTM cache control -- preferably something automated and moderately intelligent -- and the DTMManager architecture actually has a few hooks to support that, though we aren't doing anything with them yet. Speaking only for myself, I'd much prefer to see the problem addressed at this level, so it automatically does the right thing for all (or at least most) stylesheets, rather than filling the code with special-cases that require stylesheets written specifically for Xalan. But doing it right will take longer.
