IBM has some folks involved in the Xerces effort and some involved in the Xalan effort. Separate teams, though we do talk to each other and some code does get tossed back and forth. (There used to be a fair amount of my code in the Xerces DOM implementation, for example; haven't checked to see how much of that still exists.) IBM's own tools, XML4J/XML4C and LotusXSL, are currently based on the Apache packages -- not surprising since these packages were mostly based on IBM's donations of code to begin with.
