Ick.  With xml-xalan CVS 08-Feb-02 14:00 (eastern) you can see the behavior 
described above, see num="6" in the file.  However this appears to happen when 
there's extra space/tabs plus a new line between 'is' and 'a', so we need to 
investigate exactly the rules for the parser in this case.
