Please see http://xml.apache.org/xalan-j/faq.html#faq-15 which points
out that you have something wrong with your XML parser - whichever
parser is actually being used by your servlet.  Remember that the
servlet engine (Tomcat or whatever) may re-map your classpath in
non-obvious ways, and that certain Tomcat builds had problem just like
this one, since the parser the Tomcat build had was back-level or had
the wrong defaults (I can't remember which, but searching either the
xalan-dev or tomcat-dev lists at marc.theaimsgroup.com will certainly
have a similar problem and solution)
