Here's what I am including in my stylesheet: <xsl:output method="xml" media-type="text/vnd.wap.wml" omit-xml-declaration="no" indent="yes" doctype-public="-//WAPFORUM//DTD WML 1.1//EN" doctype-system=""http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/wml_1.1.xml";> When I run the stylesheet through Xalan without using XSLTC it does generate the DOCTYPE reference in the output. But when using XSLTC the DOCTYPE reference is not included in the output. John
