While I must say I'm quite disappointed that Jacek has decided to
create his own proprietary derivative of Xalan/XSLTC, he definitely has
the right to do that and has my good wishes at making some good code.

When it comes to licensing issues, some of them are quite simple: read
the license - it's in all the sources. Jacek must not use the words
'Apache' or 'Xalan' (the official project name) to promote his product,
however he can use 'XSLTC' since that was never included in our license
(AFAIK).

I would urge Jacek to reconsider and suggest a revolution and create a
proposal directory (which is basically it's own copy, *not* just a
fork, of the code) - this way the community can benefit from the new
ideas, Jacek can benefit from the community giving him feedback, and
the main project won't suffer any instability. But if he really has a
specific need that doesn't fit in the community, then we need to let it
go, and re-focus on what the current community can do with our existing
code.

I agree with Scott; committer privs should be left for the time being,
either if Jacek changes his mind, or if he just wants to fix a few bugs
along the way 8-). However there is a policy that committers who don't
participate in the community for several months can be removed, so I'd
suggest that the offer is not permanent.

(Those wanting a quick synopsis of a big part of this thread can read
this message, I definitely echo Stefano's points here)
