I'd also add that installation problems are usually not considered "bugs" unless the problem is clearly that Xalan's code, rather than your environment, is broken.
Bugzilla is great for things which really need a developer digging into the code, and helps keep us from forgetting issues of that sort. But there's a relatively small community actively trying to address those bug reports, and they get triaged by severity, by how quickly we think we can get them fixed, and by who's available to work on them. Usage questions should generally be posted to the mailing lists instead, since that gets you wider readership and -- often -- faster answers. The xalan-j-users list might have been the optimal place for this one.
