One problem is that some of the standards we implement (JAXP/TrAX/SAX) have their own implementations of that code, and _they_ don't necessarily agree with each other ... so the question of which (if any) of these we should be basing our own code upon is less than perfectly clear. It's a pity Sun hasn't provided a standard encapsulation for this...
