... That should _mostly_ be safe, though there is some possible ugly interaction on IDs (which are global across the Document). But I wouldn't be entirely surprised to find that I'm forgetting something.

Not that I've got cycles to spend on this right now, but it'd be helpful to have a completely stand-alone testcase which demonstrates the problem (no app-data stuff, just standard DOM calls and a Xalan execution).
