Does Eclipse play a role in your runtime environment? I cannot reproduce the problem. And the code also looks good. Please try with the stylesheet you posted here. If you are still seeing the problem, it might have something to do with your environment settings. In that case, please run EnvironmentCheck (java org.apache.xalan.xslt.EnvironmentCheck) and post the output here.
