<item key="version.xalan2">Xalan;Java;Xalan Java 2.2.D11;</item> Looks like it is finding my installed 2.5.1 jars.
It is picking up Xalan 2.2.D11 from JDK1.4's rt.jar rather than the installed Xalan 2.5.1 jars. The FAQ that I sent you has information on how to run Xalan with JDK 1.4.

Ok, the endorsed dir didn't work, but explictly setting the bootclasspath did the trick.
