Sorry if that wasn't clear. However, according to XSLT 1.0, "If the string is empty, then the expanded-name of the attribute has a null namespace URI." I think XSLTC is emitting bogus namespace declarations of the form xmlns:ns="". In the case of a StreamResult, I think they are filtered out by the serializer, but in the case of StreamResult (and probably in the case of SAXResult), they are being passed through to the Result object.
