Cannot link the samples with MSVC7 in the IDE

I have MSVC 7 installed, and have never installed MSVC 6 on this machine. When
the Localization program MsgCreator.exe runs, it could not find MSVCRTD.DLL. I
found a comment on the inet to the effect that VC7 changed the name to
MSVCR70.DLL, but a simple copy to the old name (MSVCR70.DLL -> MSVCRTD.DLL)
didn't work either. Really didn't expect it to, but I wa hoping.
