About a month ago, Brian mentioned that Jira is able to cross-reference CVS commits with bug reports, but only if the full Jira key for the issue is included in the commit message. If you take a look at bug report XALANJ-1994,[1] for example, and click on the "Version Control" tab, you'll be presented with a list of the files changed. That's because I included the full Jira key for the issue in the commit message: XALANJ-1994.
Note that I neglected to include the full Jira keys in the commit messages for a couple of other patches I applied recently, so I know how easy it is to forget. However, I think it's important for us to make the best of the tools we're using by taking advantage of what little linkage we have between source control and bug tracking.
