XalanDOMString causes program to crash!

I have been testing out the new versions of both Xerces and Xalan and have
encountered a slight problem. I have written a small test program to accompany
this description as I cannot include the original piece of work.
The test program performs the necessary Initialise calls and then trys to
generate an instance of a XalanDOMString, upon doing so it causes the program
to terminate with the following coredump being generated:

I am completely baffled by this problem as I see no reason why this should not
run. Any help would be great.
