Question: What is the JIRA "Fix Versions" field for? Answer: Developers should select the first version that will contain the fix.
FOR THE 2.7 RELEASE ================== In general, JIRA issues should only be closed if they are fixed in a release. 2.7 was just released. If you are verifying that a particular bug, that is currently in "resolved" status, is fixed in the 2.7 release please make sure to change the "Fix version" to 2.7 before you close the issue. It's just a matter of good book keeping. Once an issue is closed you can't edit the fix version. I've already done a bulk change on issues created after Feb 29, 2004 (after the 2.6 release) that were in "resolved" status. Clearly such issues could not be associated with an earlier release, and would have changes committed and picked up by the 2.7 release. I changed their fix version to 2.7 (sorry for the 200 or so notes to the mailing list). However I will have missed those created before Feb 29, 2004 but that got fixed after that date. FOR THE FUTURE ================= I've just created a new release named "The next release". If from this point on you resolve an issue, probably by committing a patch, please set its Fix Version as "The next release". At Xalan-J's next release I'll rename this release to 2.7.1, or 2.8, or whatever it should be at that time.
