I'd like to extend my belated personal thanks to Brian for all the work he did as the chair of the Xalan project, and more so as a contributor and committer, most significant of which was a rewrite of the Xalan serializer that both the Xalan-J interpreter and XSLTC processors use, and which the Xerces project uses for the DOM L3 Save support in Xerces-J. But it seems Brian's trust may have been a bit misplaced, as the PMC hasn't acted very quickly to elect a new chair. I'd like to make amends for that by calling for a vote on a new PMC chair, to close 25 February, 2008. According to section 5.6 of the Xalan Charter,[1] the PMC elects a chair from within its own ranks by a simple majority. Anyone on the PMC should feel free to vote for any PMC member, including himself or herself. Committers and contributors are welcome to express their views, but only the votes of PMC members will be counted. Here are the names of all the Xalan PMC members: John Gentilin Christine Li Ramesh Mandava Brian Minchau Santiago Pericas-Geertsen Henry Zongaro I'd like to open the voting by casting a +1 vote for David Bertoni for chair of the Xalan PMC. David has long been the primary contributor on the Xalan-C processor, and has often gotten involved in discussion in the Xalan-Java side of things as well. David has also been a member of the Xalan PMC since September 2007. As such, I think he'd make an excellent PMC chair.
