Microsoft development platform support notes:
The current SVN trunk of Xalan-C is compatible with the released
packages of Xerces-C 2.8 and 3.1.1. The Xalan-C SVN trunk is considered
stable for most applications.
The current SVN trunk of Xalan-C is the pre-release of version 1.11 and
is a significant patch release of the old version 1.10. The current SVN
supports Microsoft VC6, VC7.1, VC8, VC9, and is known to be upgrade
compatible with VC10.
The documentation part of the tree still reflects the version 1.10
documentation. I am in process of updating the documentation - review
documents are posted in the https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/XALANC
repository.
If you need the IBM ICU, the legacy support is available in Xerces-C 2.8.
I don't know how well Xerces-C 3.1.1 supports the IBM ICU, but
additional transcoding modules are available.
The VC6 (Visual Studio) requires Xerces-C version 2.8 or earlier but is
considered deprecated. Support for VC6 has been removed in Xerces-C 3.0.
Xerces-C 3.1.1 supports VC7.1, VC8, VC9, and VC10. Windows 64-bit
libraries require VC8 or newer.
Sincerely,
Steven J. Hathaway

A cursory look at http://xml.apache.org/xalan-c/download.htmlseems to
indicate that there are no prebuilt binaries of Xalan 1.10 available
for any other Visual C version than VC6. If memory serves,
**officially** the latest 'compatible' combinations of ICU, Xerces and
Xalan are respectively 3.4, 2.7 and 1.10 . Which you'll probably all
have to build yourself. Which I really don't recommend trying. Are
you absolutely sure you can't make do with Xerces 3.1.1 and the SVN
version of Xalan (and without ICU)? If you can use Xerces 3.1.1 there
**are** pre-built binaries available from VC 7.1 up to and including
VC 10... (see http://xerces.apache.org/xerces-c/download.cgi)
