I think you'll need to tell us the specific error that the XML parser is
reporting to figure out what the problem is. The Microsoft parser is
notorious for allowing documents containing illegal characters to parser
properly.
By the way, this is really an issue with the Xerces parser, not with Xalan.

I am by far an XML as well as a user list rookie. I have downloaded and
installed Xalan 2.1.0 and composed an XSL stylesheet which appears to pass
syntax checking. I have a need to transform the XML files received to HTML
for compilation. I can get the MSXML to transform the XML using the DOM
model in IE 5.5 with good results, However, when I attempt to run the Xalan
XSLT on a Solaris server I receive a malformed XML error although the XML
appears to conform to standards and translates in the MSXML DOM. Does
anyone
have any ideas on what I may be doing wrong? Any assistance would be
greatly
appreciated.
