Thanks for the feedback Shane.

I took a look at PipeDocument from CVS.  This is basically the exact same
algorithm I am using.  The only difference is code structure.

I am fairly certainly this is a Bad Bug (TM) in Xalan.  I am going to put setup
a decent debug today.

It will contain a detailed overview of what is going on.  What threads the VM
has and what their locals are.
