I suppose this is our fault, actually -- we used to refer to Templates as having been "compiled" when what we really meant was "preloaded", since some folks were then serializing the Templates in the hope that it would reload faster than re-reading the XSLT source. Misleading terminology, especially now that we're working on integrating the XSLTC system which compiles a stylesheet into actual Java bytecodes.
