Velocity may be friendlier to java object transformations, and JDOM. XSLT is more standard and will have increasingly wider tool support. I suspect XSLT is more XML savy.
But in any case, I hate, really hate, to get into these technology wars, so
enough said. If XSLT doesn't do the job, try velocity. Different tools
are better or more appropriate for different jobs. Pick your poison.

I do not understand the advantage of <a
href="http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/index.html">velocity</a> over
xslt.
Why should I learn yet another programming language (vtl) rather than using
xsl which has more reference material and seems to be more popular?
I pose the question this way, because I can't see to get a satisfactory
answer from those who would have me use vtl.
