I figured out the problem was that the TransformerFactory.newInstance() method
wasn't finding the correct javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory system
property file.

I am also using Oracle's XDK in the same program and Oracle had the
TransformerFactory, java.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory and
java.xml.parsers.SaxParserFactory files in it's classpath as well. So the
TransformerFactory was returning an oracle.xml.jaxp.JXSaxParserFactory which
wasn't working with my stylesheet(I don't know why, if anyone wants to throw
two cents in, I'd be interested).

I'm using visual age for java, and both sets of files were in the resources
directories. My only guess as to why it was defaulting to oracle is that
Oracle is earlier in the classpath(or resource path) than Xalan......

Hope my agony helps someone else along.

I can run my stylesheet and input.xml document through
org.apache.xalan.xslt.Process just fine. The error that is being thrown is a
TransformerConfigurationError. Is there a config file for the transformer
factory that should be looking at that might be fouled up?

Can anyone point me in a direction? I've been looking at this for two solid
days now, uninstalling and reinstalling packages and jar files, but I can't
shake it. That error doesn't look like any that I've seen from xalan before
either.
