You really can't patch this at the  XML syntax level. As far as the XML
parser is concerned, there should be absolutely no difference between
&apos;, &#39;, &#x27; and the ' character itself. The parser converts all
of those to ' long before XSLT starts trying to interpret the stylesheet's
contents.

Simplest workaround might be to set an XSLT variable to "Child's Text",
then use that variable in your select statement.
