Xalan supports XSLT 1.0, which is the only W3C-blessed version of XSLT
currently in existance.

XSLT 1.1 was a proposal that the W3C has decided not to pursue.

XSLT 2.0 is currently a Working Draft being developed jointly with the XML
Query group. It involves some fairly significant architectural changes to
track datatypes and so on. Folks have been looking at what would be
involved to extend Xalan to support XSLT 2; current estimate is that it is
doable but not trival.
