The XSLT spec lists "support for entity references" as an area for future devlopment. At this time, XSLT 1.0 really doesn't have a mechanism for creating entity declarations and references in the output document; the only support is that the HTML output mode _may_ take advantage of entities declared in the standard HTML DTD. If you really need to do this using today's XSLT, I think you have two choices, both ugly. One is to write your stylesheet to build the whole output document explicitly in Text mode. The other would be to output some sort of placeholder mark and write a post-processing stage which finds those placeholders and replaces them with the appropriate entity syntax. ______________________________________ Joe Kesselman / IBM Research
