Another method not mentioned in the FAQ is used by various servlet 
containers: you can write a custom class loader and load all your classes 
through it. This method is easiest with applications -- not sure how you would 
make it work as a part of a library.

Your choices are to follow the instructions there, or to use the old (and
buggy) version of Xalan that was shipped with JDK 1.4.
