Is ApplyXPath more efficient than ApplyXPathDOM?

The difference between the two is how you're reading the input. In ApplyXPath, you're letting Xalan read from a text stream and do its own (SAX) parsing and model construction. In ApplyXPathDOM, you're saying you already have a DOM in memory and want to read from that.
