getting started

Ok I have JAVA_HOME set to my JDK 1.5 path and ANT_HOME set to my Ant
path.  I downloaded the source and ran the build script, and the output
was as shown in the "Hello World" section.  However, the logs, staging,
and compressedSource directories were not created.  Is there something
else I need to do before building?  For now, I was just going to use a
simple jetty server to deploy and test the examples with, is this
sufficient?
