scrollBars of browser do not appear

Using freePane or horizontalBoxPane or any other layouts, scrollBars of browser
do not automatically show-up when application's height goes over the browser's
height. This is because css styles for the elements are set to as "overflow =
hidden". I have tried overriding this setting, but does not take into effect.
