Thanks, Curt. I'll keep digging. I've tried both Gnome and KDE. In
fact, it's even happening with no desktop manager.

I thought this might be the zero-size list thing I saw in the xastir

That zero-size problem had to do with the "Desktop Effects" option
which enabled "compiz" as I recall.
If I right click in Xastir, the pointer switches orientation (arrow
leaning to the right), no pop-up menu appears, and the pointer is
stuck in the Xastir window. It can't navigate out of the Xastir
window and I have to pop over to another virtual terminal
(control-alt-F2) and kill the xastir process to get control back.
This is under FC12 rawhide with the default gnome display manager.
Is this the same bug I saw in the list? Have others experienced this?
I have not seen this (that I recall, which ain't saying much), but
I don't run Gnome or KDE. It's certainly possible that they've
changed something in newer desktops that make them incompatible with
Motif-based apps. The "compiz" bug was in that category as I think
other Motif apps were problematic under compiz as well.
Sure would be nice if people would think about making things
backward-compatible when they add code, instead of just tromping
forward blindly assuming everyone uses KDE or Gnome and can fix
their apps at will to comply.
