With some Linux distro's I've seen a symbol issue when the language environment is not set to something Xastir likes. It has been quite a while, so I don't remember if what I saw matches the symptoms here, but issuing the command export LANG=C prior to launching Xastir resolved my issue.
It can do a whole lot more than that... If the various LANG variables are set incorrectly, the printf/sprintf/fprintf/scanf/fscanf/sscanf functions in libc work differently, and Xastir doesn't save/restore it's own config files properly. Usually this presents as having your own symbol pop up in the wrong location each time you start Xastir and having to move it. -- Curt, WE7U. archer at eskimo dot com http://www.eskimo.com/~archer Lotto: A tax on people who are bad at math. - unknown Windows: Microsoft's tax on computer illiterates. - WE7U.
