It can do a whole lot more than that...  If the various LANG
variables are set incorrectly, the
printf/sprintf/fprintf/scanf/fscanf/sscanf functions in libc work
differently, and Xastir doesn't save/restore it's own config files
properly.  Usually this presents as having your own symbol pop up in
the wrong location each time you start Xastir and having to move it.
