Nope, I told xubuntu to do an install from the boot menu (did I mention I get the graphical boot menu, then get the splash screen w/animated progress bar?) and it locked - no activity on the CDROM when it stopped. > When it locks up try Ctrl Alt F1 and see if you get a console.
