Could be, but the splash screen with the animated progress bar on
xubuntu displays fine.

and DSL runs fine.

Nope, I told xubuntu to do an install from the boot menu (did I
mention I get the graphical boot menu, then get the splash screen
w/animated progress bar?) and it locked - no activity on the CDROM
when it stopped.

Did that, nothing there.

Nope, just a reset.
