Yes.  Pretty much anything that will work from the command-line and
is available in your particular distribution should work.  Test them
out on the command-line until you get command-line parameters
figured out, then put that into Xastir and test.

I use this on OpenSuSE Linux:

    /usr/bin/aplay -q
