to all that replied thanks but i think i have found the problem. there is a 
selction in the interface control in the tnc setting to turn on the gate 
functions (which i did) but there is also another place in the default 
configuration drop down menu that also ask what you want xastir to do i found 
it and selected the same rf > internet and now my igate seems to work again
