I'll try to contact FTDI, and ask them about support for Mac OS X > 10.7.3.
They sent me a beta of their device driver with Lion (OS X 10.7) support, and the crashes went away. I asked them when they expect to release this new version to the general public, I will post another follow-up when I hear from them on that.
