Right.  So that we can keep things as general as possible and not limit the 
user.


Now, some sort of "no monkeying required" format might be nice, along
with some tools to re-format (pre-render?) your favorite maps...

An "import" function for raster maps that does all of the re-projection work 
one time and perhaps creates tiles has been discussed before.  After that operation it 
would be much faster to load the correct tiles w/o reprojection.
