It is legal to use a 'tactical name' in the "FROM" slot of an AX.25 UI frame.
As long as the station call sign is also included - somewhere - in accordance with the time requirements. Namely, at least once every 10 minutes and at the end of a conversation. Since UI frames can't be considered - usually - part of a 'conversations - most operators include their callsign as part of a status or other text string. IMNSHO it's not a "Good Way(tm)" of doing things - but it's legal. That and a buck may get you a bad cup of coffee, someplace.
