I build from scratch on a slack distro so I learned to "build" all the support
in I need before
./configure, make and make install of Xastir. I just look at the information
screen after ./configure and go from there.
I just built 2.0.6 and by golly it fired up just fine after the install. Easy
update here

Only thing I wished could be done is the ability to monitor another NMEA stream
through another port
similar to the base station's position. I have a remote sensing device that
uses FSK modulation that sends
the NMEA strings via the ISM band to a receiver that plugs into a USB port at
9600bps. It behaves exactly like
a USB GPS receiver. Xastir reads it perfectly except of course it interprets it
as the "station" GPS as I have to configure the port to be read as such. I can
work around that a bit by putting an "object" at the base station position.

It would be nice if a second NMEA stream could be labelled and followed
independently of the station GPS NMEA stream.
