You've probably got crossed links for the directory paths. The packaged version probably installs in one place, the development sources into a different place.
Try doing this: Stop Xastir cd mv .xastir .xastir.save Start Xastir That should force Xastir to create a brand-spanking-new ~/.xastir/ directory and populate it, at which point you can look at the ~/.xastir.save/ directory (mostly the xastir.conf file) to figure out what some of your previous settings were.
