Just a quick update on this, this is going somewhere, check the forum
thread at http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=118978 and join the
discussion there.

The idea would be to build a website that has a "translation memory"
(==easy to re-use existing translations) that can be used for easily
giving translation tasks to anyone interested. Yesterday I built a
quick "prototype" of the user interface I had in mind, it's missing
some things but the basic idea is there:

I would really like to see some devs joining the development. It's
gonna take forever if I'm the only one building it :) In the end we
could even automated git pull requests of updated strings directly to
core and those addons doing the addon development in github...

A question to addon developers not in github: what would be good ways
for you to integrate with this system, so that keeping the
translations in sync is feasible? I'm really hoping if this is easy
enough to use, we'll soon see users doing translations for all popular
addons in all popular languages.
